Known limitations

BigdataSight favors explicit, correct boundaries over silently approximating an unsupported operation. These are the limitations that matter when evaluating the first release.

SQL availability depends on the source

  • SQL is read-only.
  • Excel, Arrow IPC, and Feather inputs do not create SQL views and cannot participate in cross-source queries.
  • SQL result tabs contain the bounded result loaded by the query; exporting a result tab does not rerun an unbounded query.

Some source operations are intentionally narrower

  • Arrow IPC and Feather source export does not apply grid filters; these inputs also have no sorting control.
  • The main grid does not sort from column headers. Use an explicit SQL ORDER BY for sources with a SQL view; Excel has no sorting control in 1.0.
  • Avro and ORC are unavailable in 1.0. Remote single-file formats are limited to Parquet and CSV.

Export has explicit scope and limits

  • Source export supports CSV, JSON, Parquet, Arrow IPC, and Feather. SQL result export supports CSV, JSON, and Arrow IPC.
  • Arrow IPC and Feather source output currently materializes at most 100,000 rows.
  • Current page and all rows are the supported source-export scopes; there is no selected-rows-only export.

Remote and catalog support is specific

  • Remote access requires Pro and a supported connection. The 1.0 object-store path is S3.
  • AWS Glue support means the verified Iceberg REST workflow; it does not mean every Glue Data Catalog operation is available.
  • Unsupported catalog providers and lakehouse layouts fail closed instead of returning data whose correctness has not been verified.

Distribution channels remain separate

  • A Direct license cannot unlock the App Store build, and an App Store purchase cannot generate a Direct license.
  • Direct licenses support up to two active Macs. App Store device availability follows Apple account and StoreKit rules.
  • The Direct build does not currently include in-app automatic updates; use a newer signed build from the official download page when one is published.
